Charlee Stars on Stage & Television
|
| Before Christmas Charlee Laine spent 3 weeks doing 45 minute spots in hotels in Las Vegas - and on Friday he appeared in Michael Barrymore television quiz show, 'My Kind Of Music'. Mr. Laine, aged 50, of Shaftesbury, wanted to be a singer from the age of 14 when he heard Frankie Laine sing 'High Noon'. A member of the Frankie Laine International Appreciation Society, Charlee first met his mentor six years ago and since then has visited him at his home and sought his professional advice. " I send him my recordings and he writes back with constructive criticism," says Charlee who produces his own CD's at his Beaufoy Close home. As well as ballads he has a wide repertoire of songs from musicals and in the Neil Diamond, Tony Bennett, Paul Anka, Frank Sinatra traditions. "I know between 300 & 400 songs, which allows me to put on a 3-4 hour show without repetition" |

| In 1996 & 1997 he did charity gigs at the London Palladium
to packed houses. He has also appeared at clubs and hotels from Bournemouth
to Blackpool. At a showcase recently in Blackpool, Charlee sang 'Wheels of a Dream' from the American musical 'Ragtime'. This got a good write-up in 'The Stage' theatrical newspaper. Charlee also does wedding receptions and other private parties and functions where he will do requests and invite the audience to take part if appropriate. " It's important to be as flexible as possible. The audience should be able to do what they want as it's their night out and they deserve to get the maximum enjoyment." he says. Charlee provides his own lighting and full orchestral backing which he compiles in his studio and has completed by Bournemouth tracking company, Digital Dream. Charlee, who entertained diners at the Grove Arms, Ludwell, on St Valentine's Day has also appeared at The Butt of Sherry, in Mere, and later this month he will perform at the opening of the new pub in Cheddar."Last year I did several spots at The Mitre in Shaftesbury which went down very well." Later this year Charlee will be returning to Las Vegas, while his latest endeavour here has been to set up a website where his 5 CD's are featured. |
